One thing the children will think about after reading these stories is their ability to choose what kind of person they want to be. Even when something unpleasant happens, they can choose how to respond to the situation. As you discuss these stories with your children, allow your children time to think about and choose how they might respond in similar situations.

- Storytelling: The Boy Who Stole the Pin: Open the McGuffey Spelling Book to page 82 and read the story about the boy who stole the pin. Read the story several times and prepare to tell the story to a family or school group. Practice reading with meaning and feeling, speak the words accurately and clearly. Read several times so that you can share the story from memory, with just a few notes to guide you.
- Copy work: Copy the following verse of scripture from Galatians 6:7 using your best handwriting:

Lesson V: Before reading Lesson V, ask the children to think of some action words of things a kite can do in the sky. Read the Lesson and discuss the questions at the end.

Lesson VI: Before reading Lesson VI, ask the children what they would do if a friend did something that made them sad. Read the Lesson and discuss the questions at the end. How else could John have reacted when the kite was lost? What good or bad would result from each way? Would he still have a friend? Role play some of the attitudes and notice the effects on both boys.

Lesson VII: Before reading Lesson VII, discuss the meaning of the following words: seized (take hold suddenly and forcibly); praise (to express admiration); heartily (in a hearty manner, with the whole heart). Read the Lesson and discuss the questions at the end. Discuss the difference between children and pets when it comes to right and wrong. Pets may be trained by reward and punishment to do what we want them to, but they have no conscience, as children do, to understand the concepts of right and wrong.
