Harvey's Elementary Grammar And Composition Written by 19th century educator Thomas W. Harvey is an advanced grammar book. In fact, we have had a number of calls from college English majors who told us that they never learned some of the material contained in Harvey's Grammar! He has designed a thorough language study with composition assignments interspersed throughout. The text begins with words, moves to simple sentences and later to complex sentences, easing the child into grammar along the way. This text also covers the eight parts of speech as well as punctuation, diagramming, proper usage, declension, parsing, and more. If you have used the Mott Series Reading workbooks for grade four, your child will have worked through the Harvey's Grammar once. He will have received an overview of those concepts. He will not have thoroughly explored them. This grammar should be reused for fifth and sixth grades because it is that advanced. It is also designed to require minimal guidance from the teacher/parent.
